Tiff/Bell Lightbox- InsideOut Film Festival LGBT

By Khamal Murray

Last night I attended the Inside Out Film Festival, May19th -29th where I saw 5 short films. Of these short films one stood out more so than the others. I believe it was a combination of the production, the content and finally the acting that secured it’s status as the best film.

The name of the Award Winning Film was CHANGE staring Sean McCalm as Jamie. Jamie is an African American high school teen who finds himself torn between the world of acceptance from his friends and the acknowledgment of his sexual orientation. This bidirectional disposition fosters much internal conflicts which he is eventually forced to confront.

The movie CHANGE also recognizes the shift created in America with the election of the First Black President and the California voter’s ban on Gay Marriage in the form of Proposition 8.

I encourage all persons to go out and support LGBT Film Festivals to foster acceptance and respect among each other.
