Issa Rae is the creator, producer, director and co-writer of several projects including her most recent web-series installment The Misadventures of An Awkward Black Girl . The show follows “J” a young black woman as she encounters several awkward situations from, the break up of her boyfriend to the “b!tch” at work receiving the promotion that she wanted, to drunkenly sleeping with an annoying co-worker who believed the encounter was more than a one night stand. The comedy is witty and lends to many situations that we encounter when navigating social spaces. One last tidbit, the character “J” writes gangsta rap as a form of therapy.
Issa received her B.A. from Stanford University, where she produced and directed four theatrical productions. Because film was her true passion, she took time off from Stanford to attend the New York Film Academy where she honed her filmmaking skills. “The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl” is Issa Rae’s third web series and it has been featured on several sites and publications. Rae recently signed with UTA and 3 Arts Entertainment with plans to turn ABG into a cable half-hour comedy.
